The word concinnity sounds complex but it is complete simplicity. This feeling of ‘internal harmony’ occurs when all pieces unexplainably fit together and you accept the perfection of the moment despite urges to change it.
In terms of design, concinnity is minimalism. You are in a wiser mind in this space of clairvoyance. To achieve this state of mindfulness, you must accept the present.
So when the space is too small to accommodate your dream sofa… when it exceeds your budget … when you cannot bear to give away tattered items … accept it, move on, clear your mind and embrace the moment. All of these circumstances create conflict but holding onto the discomfort creates more pain.
It may not feel so blissful and quite possibly sad, but acceptance enables you to release those emotions you were not willing to face… ahh take a deep breath and feel free.
I believe clear open spaces open the mind, promote energy flow and evaporate tensions.
A quick anecdote … I have a table. It is an heirloom in Nana’s family for many years. It has a blemish. As a child Nana, placed a hot iron on the table and it left a mark. Her mother scolded her. For years, she held onto the shame of leaving a hot iron on a table by covering up the spot with a vase, sculpture or whatever she could find. Now I leave the scar open for the world to see. I think it is beautiful… a reminder of Nana and the innocence and spontaneity of a child.
Ms.CoCoVanDerChic defines concinnity the completeness of a moment, acceptance without the urge to add more. Embrace it and sustain it.
