Ms. CoCoVanDerChic

T'is not easy being elegantly green.

Each day, I try my best to love myself and those around me, think loving thoughts and do loving things. Recycling, composting, buying local and using canvas shopping bags are all things I do. However, I must confess … I have two wasteful habits. Using paper coffee cups and paper towels. I kicked the first this week when I spotted the perfect travel mug… a Konitz.

It is hard to find the perfect travel mug, Aluminum mugs and hot beverages, in my opinion, do not mix. I like fine china or pottery. Also, I have a hard time with the plastic mugs with the logo of some big corporation on them. I don’t know about you but when I have morning coffee, tea or cocoa (and me) I want to feel at home, not like I am in the middle of an advertisement. And size matters. I don’t want to pay for a large just because I have a large mug.
The next step is overcoming the resistance to change. With a travel mug …  I must remember to take the mug each morning to my local coffee shop and wash it out afterwards. Sounds lazy, but I am a busy gal.

Finally guilt set in. How can Ms. CoCoVanDerChic drink coffee out of a paper cup with a plastic lid? It certainly isn’t elegant and it definitely is not green.

Then last Friday, this mug spoke to me.

I am naturally drawn to green, the color of love. But the word eco-centric sold me.  Inspire change. If not for yourself, for others, if not now, for the future.

Now let’s talk numbers. Each morning I go to my local 7 Eleven to purchase coffee. When I wastefully and egocentrically used paper cups the cost of a small coffee was $1.61 ($1.50 plus $0.11 tax) now that I lovingly  use the green eco-centric mug the cost is $1.08 ($1.00 plus $0.08 tax) Each day I save $0.53 cents and improve the quality of life on our planet by not wasting another paper cup and plastic lid.

Another bonus to a Konitz ceramic travel mugs are fired in kilns designed to conserve energy and decrease emissions.

I can proudly say that I drink my coffee greenly and responsibly.
