T'is not easy being elegantly green.

If you could catch the magic of a rainbow and tie it around your neck how would you feel?  Indalo man holds a rainbow in his hands. It arcs over his head like an umbrella sheltering him from a storm.

My dear friend, Natalia, gave me Indalo Man. I wear him whenever I feel the need for the magic of a rainbow. Her father is from the Almeria region in Spain where Indalo Man was first discovered 100 years ago. Antonio Gongora Martinez first saw him painted on the walls of a cave.  It is ironic to think a rainbow was found in a cave.

Indalo man’s history is somewhat mysterious and has evolved over time. Originally, he was a good luck charm worn to keep evil spirits away. In the 1950s, he helped bring prosperity to the Mojacar region that was in the midst of a depression. Artists, writers and creative minds came to the region and took the symbol to represent their new found home.

Today , Indalo Man has come to represent rejuvenation, rebirth and hope. I like to believe (as some have said) that Indalo Man was a prehistoric god who held a rainbow open his arms to spread love to man.  When we love, we give, we think, we share and we grow.

To Natalia, Antonio Gongora Martinez’s discovery reminds her to discover something new about herself each day. It holds a special place in her heart and it’s an indelible image of hope in her head. She shares the charm with special people in her life.

The Indalo allegedly brings good luck, health and love to those who own one; however it must be given as a gift.  She plans to visit Spain this fall and continue to spread rainbows across the land.

Look at Indalo Man. Take a moment. Mirror his pose. Stand with your feet shoulders with apart, toes pointing straight ahead of you.  Firmly place your feet on the ground, feel the strength of you calves, your thighs. Feel the strength coming from your core and slowly raise your hands up towards the sky. Keep your palms open.

How do you feel? Ready to give? Ready to receive? Open and free.  Breath deeply and feel the power of Indalo Man holding a rainbow.

Next time you feel a little sad, scared or alone. Stand tall strong and open and feel the love you can bring to yourself as long as you believe.  And there is always the beauty and magic of a rainbow to help get you there.
