Why did I choose a green flamingo for my logo? Yes, I was coyly laughing about the reputation pink flamingos have as being kitsch and tree huggers for lacking style. But choosing a symbol to represent myself is no laughing matter. So I truly looked within.  Why does a green flamingo capture the essence of my being?

Green is the color of love and pink flamingos embody elegance and beauty in nature.  I see beauty in simplicity. It is hard to simplify and have a clear intention in everything you do.  But I try.

This week, a friend worked with me to rebalance my energy flow by opening my chakras. Chakra is a Sanskrit word meaning wheel or turning. We have seven of them. The heart Chakra is green. If you are green you are love. When you truly love … love from within, you are open and free. Your wheel of life turns freely, it does not get stuck

We all at one time or another have become stuck, in a rut, a bad habit. Change is hard but it is the biggest act of self-love. You may wonder where I am going with this? What do self-love and Chakras have to do with design. Well think feng shui, when you place each object in a room with intention,  choose an inspiring color for a workplace and a calming color for a place of rest, we open up our energy flow. We are not stuck, we are open to the world ready to love and receive love.

When we take the dust off our favorite objects, uncover favorite pictures and feel the softness of a favorite pillow or blanket, we do not impulsively throw it away … yes when a room is a complete mess I have had the urge to throw everything away and start anew. But I feel so rewarded when, I resist the urge and start organizing.

When we love, we are open to the power of time and the ability to change . I know when I practice self-love I am more patient, less anxious and more inclined to recycle whether it be furniture, cans, bottles or clothing. You can find new meaning and beauty in something old when you are open, when you love.

As someone once told me messy bed … messy head.

So open your heart Chakra, imagine green flamingos dancing around.  If nothing else, you will smile at a whimsical thought.
